The Los Angeles Lakers kicked off their summer league in a way they hope the 2022-23 season will end—in dominating fashion. The Lakers cruised to a 133-115 victory over the Miami Heat on Sunday night in the first night of at the California Classic at the Lakers’ practice facility in El Segundo.
The Lakers were led by first-round pick Max Christie, who finished with 18 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists. Scotty Pippen Jr. added 16 points and 4 rebounds, while Mason Jones had 12 points and 7 assists.
The Heat were led by second-year guard Tyler Herro, who finished with 17 points and 6 rebounds. Kyle Guy added 15 points, and Omer Yurtseven had 13 points and 10 rebounds.
The Lakers shot 48.2% from the field, including 42.9% from three-point range. The Heat shot just 40.3% from the field and 27.8% from three-point range.
The Lakers also dominated the rebounding battle, outrebounding the Heat 50-35. The Lakers’ physicality was too much for the Heat to handle, and they were able to use their size and strength to their advantage.
The Lakers’ victory was a good start to their summer league, and they will look to continue their winning ways on Monday night against the Sacramento Kings.
